A European film literacy travelling program, bringing a series of cultural and educational activities to four countries with low audiovisual production capacity, in company of great feature and short films, five young critics and film experts.

A presentation by the acclaimed French film critic and former Editor in Chief of Cahiers du Cinéma, Jean-Michel Frodon, on the power of writing film critique, and its abuse.
16:00 – 18:00 Masterclass with the Greek D.O.P Olympia Mytilinaiou (GSC), Booze Cooperativa, limited places available, registration required.
A presentation by the Greek Director of Photography of multi-awarded feature films, Olympia Mytilinaiou (GSC), on the creative use of light as a dramaturgical element in film.
20:00 – 23:00 Presentation of “The 5C Project” and screening of the multi-awarded Croatian feature film A Wonderful Night In Split/Ta Divna Splitska Noć by Arsen Anton Ostojić followed by a Q&A session with the editor of the film Dubravko Slunjski, Greek Film Archive, open and free to the public

An open dialogue between the 5 ambassadors, Maria Komninos (Director of the Greek Film Archive), Dimitris Kerkinos (Director of Balkan Survey of Thessaloniki FF), Jean-Michel Frodon, a team of film scholars and film industry professionals from the Balkans, and the Athenian public, on representations of cities and local cultural identities on the celluloid screen.

Discussion on the use of cinematography in short films from the Balkans, participating at this year’s edition of altcineAction! online film festival.

1a. End of January – April 2016 online
The five young participants will create a blog, with the help of the organisers, a Facebook page and Instagram accounts, where they will upload texts and audio-visual content (e.g. Frodon’s and Mytilinaiou’s workshops and/or their own creations) and invite other young audience members and participants from Athens, to contribute with texts, videos and discussions. Any Internet surfer can leave comments, start a discussion and participate in several ways. During this period, they will be mentored by Ana Grgic and Marian Tutui via Skype (one session per person).

2. Split, Croatia – 10, 11 & 12 June 2016 (3 Days)
Host organisation: Balkan Cultural Centre
The 5C Project caravan stops in Split for a three day event, organised by the Balkan Cultural Centre in collaboration with the Mediterranean Film Festival and Cine Club Split, and with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC). The diverse programme includes feature and short film screenings, Q&A sessions with film directors and workshops by leading experts for local audiences. Among the highlights of the program are: the screening of Diorthosi/ The Correction and Q&A with the acclaimed Greek film director Thanos Anastopoulos, and the screening of Poslijepodne/Puška followed by a lecture with the renown Yugoslav Black Wave director Lordan Zafranović. Local film amateurs will also have the opportunity to participate in two workshops, one on film sound led by expert Elektra Venaki, and one workshop on “The Split Film School” led by film scholar and critic Diana Nenadić.

The five ambassadors will upload their written or photographic experiences and invite Romanian young people to Cetate, where the next event is scheduled, during the Divan Film Festival. During this period, the ambassadors are mentored by Ana Grgić and Marian Tutui via Skype (one session per person).

The 5C Project caravan stops in Cetate for a three day event, organised by the Balkan Cultural Institute Association in collaboration with Divan Film Festival, and with the support of National Film Centre of Romania and of the Romanian Cultural Institute. The diverse programme includes feature and short film screenings, a Q&A session, two workshops by leading experts and an international conference on Balkan cinema. Among the highlights of the program are: the screening of film The Parade/ Parada and Q&A with the acclaimed Serbian director Srdjan Dragojević, the international conference “Urban Stories in the Balkans” and the two workshops are: “Film Criticism: The Digital Age” by Professor Dana Duma and “In/Outside the Editing Room” by Aleksandra Milovanović.

Finally, the project co-ordinators will gather the contributions (consisting of participants’ experiences, photographs, clips of films, and interviews with filmmakers and experts, reviews and edited videos) and publish the action results and the final summary on the dedicated project website, so that any interested person or organisation will be able to consult the results of the 5C project.
